One of the barriers to greater recycling is that there is no market for recycled goods. We need to create more demand for recycled goods. More demand could make recycled products more profitable by allowing higher prices or, even better, driving down costs.
Somewhat depressing news in this paper from yesterday's Assembly members' meeting on Waste, Energy and Minerals.
No changes are proposed to the targets, apparently for every one of us who said they were too low, someone else said they were too high!
Some of our proposed changes to the Strategy are accepted, however. The full report on the consultation responses is here
and the consultation workshops which I know several of you attended is here.
The final version of the strategy will go to the Assembly's full meeting on 16th July - usually just a rubber-stamping exercise.

Over a year later than originally scheduled, the South West regional waste strategy is now in its consultation phase. The draft strategy will shortly be published and comments can be made up until May 14th.
There will be a series of seven regional workshops as well - one per county area.
The draft strategy can be viewed on the Assembly website as two halves (pdfs):
Mike Birkin (South West FOE) will let groups have more details shortly and suggest ways we can best respond as individuals and groups
