Friends of the Earth alarmed
by building spree plans
Friends of the Earth is alarmed by plans for a massive building spree on green fields near Bristol. It has
launched a campaign to publicise the plans being drawn up by local Councils and
the Regional Assembly, who want to build 90,000 to 120,000 homes in the next 20
years, plus a similar quantity of offices and other commercial developments.
Friends of the Earth will be holding a
public meeting to debate about these plans on Wednesday 30 March. The meeting
will be at the Greenfield Centre in Park
Avenue in Winterbourne, starting at 7:30pm.
Alan Pinder of Friends of the Earth said, “Most people are not aware of these
plans. We are talking about several new Bradley Stokes somewhere in the open
country. This is environmental destruction on a grand scale. There have been
consultation exercises, but very few people were aware of them. This
development is being pushed on us by the government and unelected regional
bodies.”
